Nantgaredig v Taff’s Well, Saturday 13th January 2018 - K.O. 2pm.

On Saturday Clwb Rygbi Nantgaredig face Taff’s Well RFC in the last 16 of the WRU National Bowl, This is the furthest that the club has ever progressed in the competition and are potentially only three games away from a final in the Principality Stadium.

Although they have the advantage of the home draw, Nant have drawn tough opposition in the shape of Taff’s Well RFC, who were runners up in the competition only two seasons ago, The visitors play in Division  3 East Central where they are handily positioned in second place with a game in hand. They beat their local rivals Treharris to get through to this round having previously beaten Burry Port and Machen.

Nantgaredig, who are in a tight group at the top of Division 3 West 11 points behind leaders with 3 games in hand, had a  bye in the last round but have so far come through three games beating Tregaron, Pembroke Dock Quins and Cefneithin to reach this point. While Taff’s Well may have the experience of reaching the final, Nantgaredig have the home draw and are hoping for a full house with a lot of support.

Club Chairman Hugh Harries ”It is a step into the unknown for us. We expect it will be a hard fought contest that supporters of both sides can enjoy and we will take the win”, Nantgaredig are just completing the extension to their clubhouse and will be opening it up for use for the first time on Saturday. “It has taken a lot of work by the committee, club members and supporters to get it there, but all the work is worth it when we have occasions like this Bowl match. We look forward to welcoming Taff’s Well”.

Nant may have an additional advantage in that they have a Divisional tradition to carry on - The last two winners of the Bowl, Burry Port 2016 and Amman United 2017 have also come from Division 3 West
