Nantgaredig 23 : Trimsaran 17

Rugby returned to Nantgaredig on Saturday where the home side were fortunate to hold out to a determined second half fight back by the visiting Trimsaran team. After a four week break without a game due to the Home Internationals, Nantgaredig opened the scoring with two early penalty kicks by Meirion Davies and soon followed with the first try. Trimsaran were forced to concede over their own try line and from the following 5 metre scrum the ever present George Gleeson dived over the line.

Trimsaran had limited possession to work with although full back Dan Griffiths was stopped short of the Nantgaredig line following a move which took the length of the pitch. Nantgaredig scored their second try with Rhydian Davies gathering a loose ball midfield and winger Iwan Thomas on hand to take the final pass to score beneath the posts. Nantgaredig ended the first half having scored 18 unanswered points and this prompted the coaches to ring the changes. This allowed Trimsaran back into the game with man of the match second row Lee Thomas scoring a hat trick of tries. Nantgaredig scored one second half try by wing Gethin Davies and just about managed to hold onto the six point lead until the final whistle.

Next Saturday Nantgaredig visit Llandeilo and then host the Sweden National Team for a three day visit with an 'international' to be played on Saturday 18th March at 12.30 pm. The match will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the rugby club at Nantgaredig.
