Nantgaredig 17 - Burry Port 54

Burry Port were the visitors for the last home game of the season and they scored 9 tries to maintain their position as one of the two leading sides in the division. Nantgaredig had barely made contact with the ball before an error in the lineout resulted in Bryn Jenkins walking over for the first try with only two minutes played. The visitors added another two converted tries before Nantgaredig finally reorganised to score a penalty by Meirion Davies and a well taken try by outside half Rhodri Jones. Winger Iwan Thomas intercepted a loose pass to score in the corner to bring the score to a respectable 17-21 but then Burry Port scored a further two converted tries to lead 17-35 at half time.

The second half produced more of the same from the visitors with centre Ceiron Thomas being at his best whether with the ball in hand or kicking for field position. With the Nantgaredig defence drawn ever narrower, Thomas was able to pass long to his outside backs allowing them room to attack with pace and support. In fairness, Nantgaredig battled and worked hard all afternoon but ultimately were unable to retain the ball for sufficient periods to add to their first half score.

Next week Nantgaredig are away at Penybanc before the season ends with the final game at National Bowl winning side Amman United.

Scorers: M Davies (pen, cons 2) R Jones, I Thomas (tries) Burry Port: tries B Jenkins, R Gravel, L Simms, B Williams, D Evans(2), A Davies, L Rudall(2), cons B Williams(6), C Thomas.
