Nantgaredig 5 - Bynea 20

Bynea were worthy winners in Saturday's league fixture at Nantgaredig. The visitors well drilled forwards consistently carried over the gain line and retained possession for lengthy periods during the game. Nantgaredig's scrum stood up well whereas the line out is very much work in progress.

Bynea's first try came as a result of a rare Nantgaredig move into the opposition half resulting in the ball being turned over. The Bynea outside half kicked behind the attacking three quarters making home winger Adam Quill turn and race back in cover defence. Unfortunately he failed to secure the ball leaving the door open for his opposite winger to score.   The second try came about as the Bynea forwards continued their driving mauls up field and gaining twenty or more metres. With the home team committed to defence the ball was moved wide for the Bynea wing to cross in the corner.

With the ground becoming heavier by the minute and with both sides wearing a dark strip it became difficult to distinguish which player belonged to either team. Nantgaredig three quarters were unable to get their running game together and more than once the final pass went to ground or directly into the hands of the opposition.

The one move that did raise the spirits of the home supporters was when Dafydd Lewis fielded the ball at full back and used his pace to beat the covering defence. Lewis gave a perfectly timed pass to his outside winger Gethin Davies to score Nantgaredig's only try of the afternoon. Bynea replied with a penalty awarded after a period of pressure inside the home twenty two metre line and ended the game with a push over try from a five metre scrum.
