Nantgaredig 31 - Betws 5

Having had an indifferent start to 2018, Nantgaredig returned to winning ways and an improved performance at home against Betws. Lloyd Williams, better known as the Station Road Flyer beat his opposite wing and with the ball fed back inside it was scrum half George Gleeson who received the final pass to open the scoring with a converted try.   Williams then scored the second try of the afternoon when outside half Meirion Davies put a clever kick through which the winger gathered for another 7 points. Betws had their opportunities for points but failed with two penalty attempts. The first half ended with Meirion Davies spotting a gap in the Betws ranks to score a try which he also converted.

With a half time lead of 21-0, the home team began to try and open play up but the match at times lost structure.   Betws were unable to dominate at forward as is their usual style accordingly their threequarters also began to run the ball at every opportunity. It was scrum half Gleeson who first took advantage of this loose play when he broke away from a lineout and fed the ball inside for supporting centre Rhys Edwards to score.   Betws then had a period of attacking pressure which resulted in their second row Daniel Morgan scoring a try for their only points for the game.

In the final minutes of the game, Gleeson again broke through to allow wing Gethin Davies to make yards down the line. The scrum half was at hand to receive the returned pass to score his second try of the afternoon. In addition to winger Williams, there were sound performances from Sion Morgan at prop and Simon McCall at wing forward which bodes well for the future of the team.
