Penybanc 25 - Nantgaredig 29

This was a much improved performance by Nantgaredig from last week showing a lot more grit and determination against a Penybanc side looking to end their season on a high. It was the home side that took an early lead with the ball moved wide for winger Will Griffiths to score in the corner. Nantgaredig came back with flanker Andrew Deacon spotting a gap in a ruck formed inside the Penybanc 22 metre line and giving a scoring pass to supporting number 9 Wayne Price. With play moving from one end of the pitch to the other it was Will Griffiths who scored his second and a fine individual try to keep Penybanc ahead. Matthew Lloyd adding the conversion and a further penalty.

Nantgaredig at this early stage needed to show character and it was full back and captain Bleddyn Lewis who provided inspiration by fielding his own kick from defence to score a well taken try. Rhodri Jones added the conversion to leave the score at 15-14 at half time.

It was Nantgaredig who started the better of the two in the second half. Wing Gethin Davies scored in the corner followed by a try by Andrew Deacon after a fine run by centre Chris Harries. Bleddyn Lewis added a third try before Penybanc manufactured a try for Wayne Williams. The home side began to have the upper hand at scrum and were awarded for their efforts with a penalty close to the Nantgaredig line. Aled Danter had no hesitation in taking a quick tap to score with minutes left to play. The away team managed to hold out their lead for a nail biting finish.

Nantgaredig have one final game next week away at Amman United.
