Match abandoned after 50 minutes
The game commenced with uncontested scrums with the home side unable to field a suitably experienced front row. This is a measure introduced into rugby which allows the game to continue with a lesser risk of injury to players who do not normally play as prop or hooker.
Penygroes are in the process of re-building a team having previously been disbanded and have been placed in Division 3(West). This is a very competitive league with having no less than two national cup winners included in its rank in recent years. It is to their credit that Penygroes worked hard during the game to be competitive but had no answer to the power and pace of the Nantgaredig side.
The visiting side ran in 10 tries during the first half and it looked ominous that by the end of full time for the score to reach over 100 points. With Penygroes down to 13 players and having no substitutes available, the referee called the two captains together and it was agreed that the game should end with less than 10 minutes played in the second half.
Penygroes RFC have a long and proud history and suffering heavy defeats each week will not assist in attracting young players to the Club.
