WRU Bowl: Cwmgors 7 - Nantgaredig 43

With Huw Edwards on the BBC News predicting doom and gloom and that the country will shortly run out of medicines and Marmite as a result of Brexit, it was a joy to watch Nantgaredig play their fourth round Bowl match at Cwmgors. Two tries in the first half and four in the second makes the entrance fee of three pounds good value in anyone's money.   Meirion Davies at outside half is in a rich vein of form and his all round game is improving under the coaching of Tomos Marks. Davies scored both tries in the first half and his kicking for position in difficult conditions was much appreciated by the hard working forwards.

Davies was overshadowed in the second half by full back Dafydd Lewis who scored 4 tries. The start of the second half began as the Nantgaredig forwards drove a maul thirty metres up-field. The resulting lineout saw the ball moved through the backs for Lewis to cross for his first and Nant's third try.  Cwmgors are having a difficult time in raising a team this season but the boys on the field showed plenty of heart and determination. They scored a deserved try in the second half to make the score 7-24.

At this stage of the game Nantgaredig had the bus booked for the next round of the Bowl with further tries by Lewis. The final score came about following some sharp work by centre Bleddyn Lewis having collected a clever chip by his outside half broke through a number of defenders and with the try line within reach, he unselfishly passed to his brother Dafydd Lewis for his fourth try. Whilst there is always a competition to be the top try scorer within the Club, it is pleasing that Nantgaredig players always consider the team result to be the main focus.

Back row forwards Gavin Orson and Tom Smythe showed up well by always being available to carry the ball forward and by also defending their line. Club Captain Elfed Daniels is having a fine season and leading the team as always by example.

Nantgaredig tries: Meirion Davies (2) Dafydd Lewis (4)

Penalty: Meirion Davies(1)   Conversions: Meirion Davies(5)
