The Semi Final of the WRU Bowl competition was played between Nantgaredig and Abergavenny at Llanharan RFC on Saturday 30^th March 2019.

Clearly this was going to be the most important game to date in the history of our small village side.   Four coaches left the Clubhouse carrying supporters hoping to see Nant progress to the final at the Principality Stadium.   In bright sunlight the setting was perfect for an entertaining match.

The points in the first half were being shared, but following some excellent back play Nant ended the first half leading by 20 points to 10.   Abergavenny changed their tactics in the second half limiting the Nantgaredig possession and resorting to a forward orientated driving maul game.   The game was balanced on a knife edge and after going 10 minutes into extra time Nant were leading 23 -18 and looked to be nearly over the finishing line.

In possession of the ball near the half way line it seemed that the final whistle was imminent but unfortunately a breakaway by the Abergavenny wing resulted in a converted try being scored followed by the sound of the referee bringing the game to its final conclusion a’r sgor yn 25 i 23 i’r Fenni.

The coaching team and all the players can hold their heads up high as they gave it all for the cause.   Their performance and attitude throughout the tournament is a credit to themselves and to the club in general.

We wish Abergavenny the very best for the final when they play league rivals Oakdale at the National Stadium.

We still have a lot of work to do in both the league and the West Wales Plate final.   With six games to go remaining unbeaten in the league is the challenge ahead however as a result of our current form clearly the target on our back is getting bigger and bigger.
