Amman United 24 - Nantgaredig 34

Nantgaredig consolidated their position on top of Division 3B West with a bonus point away win away against their nearest rivals Amman United. Both sides traded penalties in the first 10 minutes with the game very much played in the Amman half. What then followed was 21 points scored by the Towy  Valley side which effectively took the match away from the home team. The first of the tries was scored by prop Lee Williams breaking through in midfield. Even though he was tackled just short, the front row man managed to show good athleticism by twisting his body over the line.

Nant were now firmly in control with the threequarters running lines off the ball which left the Amman team scrambling in defence. Meirion Davies put a neat grubber kick behind the on rushing defence for centre Rhys Schiavone to collect and score the second try. Nant's third try of the half came straight off the training field with Rhydian Evans supporting infield from his wing position to give a scoring pass to his fellow wing man Lloyd Williams. Williams followed up his earlier penalty success by converting all three tries. Amman's outside half Steffan Rees managed a couple of long range penalties to keep his side in the game which left the home team trailing at half time by 9 points to 24.

The team talk given to the home side proved quite effective as they lined up early for the second half. The Amman forwards carried deep into Nant territory giving their back line ample opportunities although the final pass never came to hand. Amman's Steffan Rees kicked another penalty as Nant made a number of substitutes with coaches Derek and Tomos having an eye on the important cup game coming up.

The Amman forwards continued to carry the ball with purpose and captain Elfed Daniels and his Nant team had to dig deep to keep out the opposition. Eventually the pressure told as the home team worked winger Liam Danter over in the corner for an unconverted try. Steffan Rees at outside half for the Amman had a growing influence as the game progressed with long diagonal kicks penning the visitors in their own half.  The pressure on Nant eased in the final quarter of the match when centre Rhys Edwards held onto an interception pass and sprinted some 50 metres to score the fourth and bonus point try for Nant. The final stages were played out in Nant's territory as the Amman attempted to salvage something from the game.  They achieved just reward with number 8 Tom Thorneycroft scoring from a scrum position which was converted by inside half back Joel Foster.
