Nantgaredig 36 - Lampeter 18

Nantgaredig finished the year on a high note by remaining unbeaten in both the current league season and the national bowl competition. However, the home side did not have it as easy as the score line suggests with Lampeter taking the majority of possession and field position throughout the match.   In fairness, Nantgaredig had only one recognised back row forward in Tom Smythe on the park and the Lampeter team were a yard or two faster to the breakdown and were in control of the tackle area.   The visitors number 7 James Edwards was the outstanding forward on the field both in open play and in securing turnover ball and duly deserved his try in the second half. As is often the case this season, the opposition have never been able to convert their superiority into points whereas the Nant backs have taken theirs. Three tries in the final minutes of the first half by young Ben Nicholas, Iwan ' iwsci' Thomas and Dafydd Lewis made the score 26-11 to the home side and this provided Lampeter with a hill to climb for the remainder of the match. Probably the pick of the tries was scored by outside half Meirion 'magic' Davies who followed up his own kick ahead to outpace the cover defence and score a try close to the corner flag.

The second half failed to produce the same level of scoring opportunities as was seen in the first 40 minutes as Lampeter continued to control the breakdown area resulting in Nantgaredig infringing and incurring penalties. The referee was consistent in his decision making and true to form the home side received two yellow cards for their transgressions. Lampeter scored their second try after 20 minutes and began clawing their way back into the game. As the match ran into the final quarter, Nant kicked a penalty and was followed almost immediately by a try for scrum half George Gleeson which secured the win and the points for the home team.
