Nantgaredig v Aberaeron

Nantgaredig 20 Aberaeron 10 – Saturday 20th February 2016

Nant entertained Aberaeron in one of the few rugby fixtures to take place in West 3 on Saturday with a punishing surface and a strong westerly wind blowing towards the Railway Yard end. Aberaeron had the advantage of the elements in the first half but it was Nant that opened the scoring with a smart try in under 5 minutes scored by Rhodri Jones. Nant had trouble in controlling a good Aberaeron pack but managed to score a second try by flanker Curon 'Jaffa' Davies on one of their few forays into the opposition 22. Meirion 'Meiz' Davies added the conversion. Aberaeron managed a penalty from wide out by Sion Evans who used the wind to his advantage to end the first half.
The second half became a battle between the two packs in the heavy conditions and praise is given to referee Emyr Thomas who controlled the tackle area to allow quick release of the ball. This enabled Nant's Meirion Davies to place a high kick over the rushing defence and for Rhodri Jones to gather and score in the corner.  Aberaeron continued to work hard and were awarded for their efforts with a penalty try when Nant deliberately collapsed a rolling maul. Sion Evans added the conversion for the final score of the match.
There is no game due at Cae'r Ystrad for the next few weeks which is good news for hardworking groundsman Peter Cole. Congratulations to Paul Bunton on playing 100 games and Bleddyn's Lewis on 150 games for Nant. Thanks to Saturday's match sponsors Historic Rally Sport, Carmarthen.
